It does not get cakey or dried out, and it lasts. It is, however a MINERAL block, meaning, it's the white minerals in it that block the sun, so for it to work, it stays lightly white on your skin--it doesn't "rub in" per se. If you're trying to avoid the O-chemicals and benz-chemicals on your skin, this is a great product. Don't get frustrated with the white layer; it works and that's why you'd buy it. Nice product for kids and adults.
